Texas Irrigation Expo
When Harlingen Irrigation District decided to put on an irrigation-themed event, they turned to WaterPR. The Texas Irrigation Expo was created to educate the public about on-farm water conservation as part of the Agricultural Water Conservation Demonstration Initiative (ADI), which is funded by a grant from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). The Expo included presentations by expert speakers, tours of demonstration sites currently using on-farm water conservation tools and techniques as part of the ADI program, a scholarship contest for high school students, and exhibitors displaying the latest technology and equipment.
WaterPR handled event logistics, including exhibit spaces, catering, venue, transportation, and on-site staff assistance. We also provided outreach and publicity assistance for the Expo, including news releases, advertising, event calendar placement, and media contacts. We assisted with event branding, developing a logo, website, and registration brochures for sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees. We handled registrations and tracking for all groups, and created an invitation and handled RSVPs for a private reception held prior to the start of the Expo.
Over 230 farmers, irrigation district personnel, educators, non-profit and governmental workers, and other interested members of the public attended the event. US Commissioner Edward Drusina of the International Boundary and Water Commission and TCEQ Commissioner Carlos Rubinstien gave remarks at the reception, and Texas State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., was on hand to assist in recognizing the winners of the "Irrigator of the Year" awards.
